Quantum Law

Gian Marco Iulietto studies and works on the legal issues raised by quantum technologies: computing, communications and cryptography.

The issue closest to businesses is preparing for post-quantum cryptography: data encrypted today can be harvested and decrypted in the future, once quantum computers are powerful enough. This already affects contracts, security obligations and risk management. Alongside this come intellectual property protection for research results, technology transfer and export controls.

In 2026 he took part in the NSF I-Corps Great Lakes programme at the University of Chicago's Polsky Center with the project “Nexus Q-Link Transduction”, developed with two Fermilab researchers. He has written on the shift from the AI Act to the quantum transition.

Frequently asked questions

Why does post-quantum cryptography already matter to businesses?
Because data encrypted with current algorithms can be intercepted and stored today to be decrypted later. Anyone handling data that must stay confidential for a long time needs to plan the migration to quantum-resistant algorithms.
What does Gian Marco Iulietto do in quantum law?
Post-quantum cryptography readiness, intellectual property and technology transfer in quantum research projects, and the regulatory framework for quantum technologies.
